Takeover Tuesday

takeover tuesday, abqmom

Last week, I did something completely out of my comfort zone, Takeover Tuesday. What is Takeover Tuesday you ask? It is a day in which I took over the instagram stories for a local Albuquerque Moms group, called ABQMOM. I have been following ABQMom since I moved to Rio Rancho, NM. I have lived here about 6 + years and enjoy all of the community content and relationships ABQ has to offer. In fact, I am also listed in the Guide to Pregnancy & Postpartum in the Albuquerque Area.

Here is the initial post announcing I would be taking over. To say that I was nervous is an understatement. I used to pride myself on being able to speak publicly. But I am so out of practice that speaking to a live audience was insane. Behind the lens is where I am most comfortable. I was able to explain my place in this community and my background in Albuquerque. I was worried that my content would fall flat to the viewers. That my daily live would interest no one. What a position to be in right? So vulnerable, yet liberating I think.

I introduced myself and DaniRae Photography as an Albuquerque newborn photographer. It felt so good to finally get my name out to new potential friends and clients. Wish I could say that it made 1000 new followers arrive same day, but I do think little by little it will help me to be seen more. I hope to do it again, if only for the exercise of getting out of my comfort zone. I do look forward to meeting more of my community in the coming year.

Albuquerque New Mexico Senior Photographer

I am an Albuquerque New Mexico Senior Photographer. If you know me then you know my journey to portrait photography began with senior portraits. By that I mean not only my first job, but the very beginning of my interest into photography. You see, when I was a 6th grader my oldest brother was a senior in high school. We lived in California but our family was from New Mexico and everyone who was anyone went to The Portrait Place for their senior photos. I followed my brother throughout his session and was hooked. I later worked there learning from Wendy @StudioE Photography. It was the best decision I have made.

And today I still enjoy photographing high school seniors. It is where my craft began to flourish and understand and test the laws of photography. Here is another favorite senior shoot.  This Albuquerque New Mexico Senior Photographer session really brought me back to the good ol’ days. This gentleman did so well. I was confident and willing to do whatever to get the shot. We collaborated and created some awesome imagery. Even better, I had never photographed at this location before so we explored together and really got the best of the golden light.

Albuquerque Family Photographer | New Years Session

As an Albuquerque Family Photographer | New Years Session has always been on my bucket list. I photograph my each of my siblings families at least once a year. Family photography is what I do! One of my 3 brothers lives in California, so it is harder but we still make it happen. This is the last one a couple of years ago. Each year my best friend/sister in law brings up the awesome idea of sending out New Years Greeting cards instead of Christmas Cards. And every year I say YES! Well without mentioning too much more the past couple of years there have been a few issues with gathering for the holidays. Needless to say we had not gotten around to taking the wonderful New Years Photo Session.

Finally our calendars aligned for this Holiday season and we made it happen. Late shipping difficulties and all. I purchased most of the decorations for the session in person here in ABQ, because I had a vision. My sister wanted to get the helium, so I said sure. She was going to amazon it to me. To say the least, the shipment came after she had gone home. Finding helium on a holiday week was a fun adventure. But we worked as a team and made it happen.

Albuquerque Family Photographer | New Years Session with my brothers family could not have gone better. With 3 boys, and one just older that a year was no small feet. But they went with it and had a great time!  And so did I!

Rio Rancho Children Photographer | Leila’s Birthday Session

Rio Rancho, New Mexico Children Photographer | Leila's Birthday SessionIt is so fun being a Rio Rancho Children Photographer | Leila’s Birthday Session was one for the books. Little Leila has been earthside for 8 years. Each year, I challenge myself to capture the new year in a new and fun way. I think this year might have been my favorite to date. Some years she loves the idea, some years I love the idea. Never are we on the same page. But this year, the weather curtailed my original plans. However, I was able to recycle a New Years shoot and I think it was the best set we have ever had for her. I need to stop treating my little lady like a test model and more like the creative, imaginative child that she is.

Rio Rancho Children Photographer | Leila’s Birthday Session was a so much fun because what little girl doesn’t love glitter, or confetti, or tule dresses? She is growing up so fast. Each day I realize many things she is interested in might end and older interests will fill those spaces. And then she surprises me. She loved this shoot so much that she actually asked me the next day if we were going to do it again. I think my poor girl finds it hard to work with me because of my photographer expectations. She is afraid to let me down. I see that each time we take photos. But this time she was just so engrossed in having fun that she didn’t even think twice about smiling. That is my wake up call to chill out. She is 8 years old. Let her have fun! Thats all she wants to do!

For nostalgias sake, here is her newborn session.
