Albuquerque Family Photography Session

Our Albuquerque Family Photography Session at the Albuquerque BioPark last week was such a wonderful experience. And there is nothing more humbling than returning clients.

This family came to DRP for the first time last year to document their new edition to make them a family of three. Baby girl was such a beauty in her newborn images. This was the first shoot I photographed the newborn baby on a swing pose.

This year we were able to celebrate her 1 year milestone at the BioPark for her Albuquerque Family Photography Session. She is as spunky and beautiful as ever. Baby girl really made me work for those grins but man, was it worth it. She has my heart with the chunky cheeks and thighs.

And my goodness, can we please talk about mama’s dress and belt coordinating with baby girls festive outfit. I was getting all the fiesta feels. The fiesta ensemble was the theme for her first birthday party. Mom and Dad wanted to have that same celebration vibe for the theme of her first birthday milestone images. And I am so glad they wanted to be a part of session as well. The only thing I couldn’t do was talk mom and dad into taking a couple of shots of just them two. After all, with out them we wouldn’t have met at the newborn session to begin with. 🙂 I’m secreting hoping it happens on the next family session for 2022!

Albuquerque Family Session

Another Albuquerque Family Session in the books for one of my favorite families to photograph. It has been too long since their last family portrait session. I had been discussing with them the new location I had been searching for. They were all for being guinea pig number 2 for me. I love it when families are all in to try new adventures.

Of course, the day of the shoot there was nothing but definite storms in the forecast. We decided to shoot first thing in the morning if there were overcast clouds instead of hitting sunset. That was when the storm was supposed to rage. To our surprise it was a beautiful calm overcast morning.

Perfect for a morning family session. The last family session I had at White Mesa was a sunset engagement session. I won’t mention that, yet again, the forecast did not in fact bring any storms in the evening. By that time it didn’t matter though. We had already captured beautiful family photos in this hidden gem just outside of Rio Rancho.

The little one are always such models. I love it!!! They just let me do my thing. I was even able to get some of Mom and Dad. I think those may be my favorite. I think it is hard to remember during a family session, that the reason you are all there is because of who it all started with. Mom and Dad are still so in love and it shows!

Albuquerque Newborn Photographer | Milestones

Albuquerque Newborn Photographer | Milestones, my son turned 5 years old today. My son started kindergarten this week and turned 5 years old today. I have to keep repeating it because it doesn’t seem possible. Times has passed by so fast.

albuquerque newborn photographer, rio rancho newborn photographer, santa fe newborn photographer,My daughter’s first year seemed to be a bit slower. Seems like yesterday I mustered up the energy to take my baby’s first photos. Then a few days later we took our newborn family photos. Then, like clockwork, the milestones just began to hit seemingly instantly. 3 months, 6-7 months (because who can stay on track?), 9 months ( personal favorite of mine). Then somehow was the first birthday photos. This sessions I felt like I was planning from before he was born. It came and went in the blink of an eye.

As an Albuquerque Newborn Photographer | Milestones are a bid deal. For each birthday I try to take an updated photo of my little ones. Most of the time they are simple and timeless. Then there are times when they love something so much I cannot shy away from in. This year my son was so exited for the new Space Jam Movie. We took some simple photos with the cool jersey he got.

But being the overthetop mom that I am, I decided to get a bit more creative than normal. . .

Albuquerque Newborn Photographer | First Day of School

Albuquerque Newborn Photographer | First Day of School was yesterday. I have been excited and terrified for my kids, given the past year and a half. My husband and I have kept them home since the beginning of the shutdown. My daughter finished Kindergarten virtually. She started 1st Grade and completed the entire year virtually. She took her school photos, with “Mom” because there was no other option.

My son, stopped Daycare in March 2021, so we he never attended preschool. Yesterday was his first day of Kindergarten. For a few months I have been so nervous for him. He has really not be social with anyone other than his sister. More recently we were able to see family again, but no schooling or structure for about 17 months. The days leading up to the first day I was fearing the drop off. Being that parents can’t go into the school with them anymore, I didn’t think I was going to be able to get him out of the car.

We did the best we could on curbing his anxiety. So much redirecting the morning of. I could hear his voice crackle every time the nerve got the best of him. But when it came time to get out of the vehicle he jumped out with excitement, waved and walked away hand in hand with his sister. I was blown away. That alone made me tear up. I couldn’t see them walk all the way in, so that was nerve wracking.

I had to wait all day to see if he would make it on the right bus to get home. The bus was an hour late (first day of school) but here he was waving in excitement that he got to ride the school bus for the first time, like his sister. This morning, there wasn’t even a hug goodbye, just a race to the bus seats.

To say this was unexpected is an understatement. My son is a mama’s boy, through and through. I love it, but it made me so scared for him. We have been sheltering them for so long, I didn’t realize how much he needed this. And evenmoreso, how much he was ready for it. I have never been so proud of him. And his big sister for that matter. She was his rock and he was so happy to have her by his side. Okay, cue the mom tears.
